Our story

Joe Perry Lives Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded by Heath Perry and Kathy Perry in loving memory of Lieutenant Joseph Perry. Joe was a dedicated father, a loving husband, and a decorated lieutenant with the Manatee Sheriff's Office, who tragically lost his life to suicide on June 18, 2015, after privately battling depression and alcoholism. Joe was just 44 years old. In the same year Joe passed away, 124 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty, while another 102, including Joe, died by suicide. Recognizing this devastating yet preventable tragedy, Heath and Kathy Perry felt called to take action. They established Joe Perry Lives Inc. to support the mental well-being of law enforcement officers and first responders, emphasizing the critical need for effective decompression after high-stress shifts. Our flagship initiative, Lt. Perry’s Place, offers a welcoming retreat dedicated to helping police officers and firefighters recharge, relax, and reconnect in a safe environment. The 2,000 square foot facility provides comfortable seating areas, entertainment options, vintage arcade games, virtual racing experiences, and other recreational amenities to support physical and emotional wellness. At Joe Perry Lives, our mission is clear: to honor Joe’s legacy, raise awareness, and generate support for the Substance Abuse, Depression, and Suicide (SADS) Diversion Program. Together, we strive to provide meaningful resources and compassionate support that help protect those who protect us every day.
